Red-Tailed Hawk Liluye Studio Session and Release

I’ve known John since 2015. He is a falconer and I have shared other hawk releases of his here on my page before. It was time for John to release Liluye and of course I wanted to photograph them and the process like I have for his other birds. Lili was a very gentle and amazing bird! I enjoyed watching her hunt a few times. She was actually my first subject when I wanted to test out my new cameraa ability. She made it so easy for me! We always start release day in the studio. I did images of just Lili first and then included John. I was able to get a few photos of Lili and I. We also did some with my little guy. He loved watching her many times and wanted some photos with her before she was free. I am thankfuly for the opportunity to get these images!

After the studio portion was complete, it was time for release. Its always a bittersweet time. They gain freedom to go find a mate but it’s always sad to see them go. I can’t lie, I do cry each time I photograph this.  Thankfully the camera hides my face LOL! After Lili took off, she did a few circles over us before flying off. She even looked straight at the camera the last loop. Fly free Lili!
