Pet Photography Northern Illinois

I believe our pets are cherished members of our family and that everyone should have a professional photo of their pet. It’s something they can hold onto forever, and be proud to display in their home. I would be honored to be a part of this process and see the love and happiness between you and your best furry friends. Photography is one of the best ways to immortalize that special bond between you and your furry/feathered/scaled companions. Each of our pet sessions is specifically designed to create lasting memories of your pets, as well as tangible reminders of your love for your pets, through photo albums, framed prints or beautiful custom wall art.

The Process

Pre-consultation– After you contact us we will often set up a time to have a brief phone call so we can discuss what you are looking for in your pet portraits. We can schedule an in home consultation where I will meet you and your pet at your home.  This gives your pet a chance to meet me beforehand and allows me to interact with them. We will discuss possible session locations and talk about the photos you feel are the most important to capture. There’s no pet in the world like yours — That’s why I’ll work carefully with you to create memories worth sharing. I offer photos in my studio and on location.

Photography session– We may start photographing right away or allow them some space, it depends on how they react.  We will test what your pet responds to best by giving them attention, treats, toys and making sounds. Be sure to bring some of your pets favorite toys and treats.  There will be candid and posed shots created throughout the session.

Pet Portrait Session FAQs:

1. Where does my session take place?
Your session will be at our portrait studio or on location at a spot of your choice.

2. Do you specialize in pet photography?
While we do photograph other genres, we will still be able to capture beautiful images of you and your furry/feathered/scaled friend.

3. My pet is difficult or never sits still! Will you be able to photograph them?
Most definitely! We’ve photographed many different animals, from shy and apprehensive to high-energy personalities – even untrained dogs. We have all kinds of tips and tricks during the session to keep your pet comfortable and to ultimately provide you with a beautiful wall portrait. I am very skilled at photo shopping out leashes and hands that may need to hold the pet for some photos.

4. Can I be in the photos, too?
Of course! I love to style photos with humans and their pets. We will photograph posed images, as well as candid ones. We’ll help you be comfortable in front of the camera. Don’t worry, our retouching department can help touch up blemishes and other imperfections. You can add hair and make up from our professional artist if you would like. I also have a wardrobe full of dresses for woman and children for you to borrow for our shoot.

Tips for a successful session

**Bathe and/or Groom your dog the day before the session

**A tired dog is a good dog. Walk your dog just prior to coming into the studio and make sure they get a potty break. This will help them calm down a bit before stepping in front of the camera

**Bring soft, chewy, small training treats to reward good behavior during your session

**Make it personal! Bring your pet’s favorite toys, and bring props to show off your pet’s personality (and yours!) Clothing for your pets can be fun, too!

**Let us do the work.  Too many voices, commands and noises can be counterproductive when it comes to photos.  We do our best to keep the sessions as stress free for both the pets and the owners!

**If you will be in the photos with your pets, we recommend solid color clothing (no plaids, stripes, or bold patterns), short or long sleeve tops, and long pants or dresses. Also make sure your footwear is dark in color. I also have a wardrobe full of dresses for woman and children for you to borrow for our shoot.

[napoli_about title=”About the Photographer” image=”1978″]I am an animal lover! I have been all my life. I often got called “Elmyra” the little girl who goes “I’ll hug him and love him and squeeze him!” because I would get over excited and have to play with every animal I saw. I’ve volunteered for an animal rescue since 2015. I specialize in working with their raptors and I will often be found doing educational programs with the birds of prey at many different places. I get to work with all kinds of animals at this rescue including foxes, owls, hawks, raccoons, possums, coyote and more so I have a lot of experience with animals. Your pet’s safety and happiness is number one with me. I am very skilled at photo shopping out leashes and hands that may need to hold the pet for some photos so you can help during our session if needed.[/napoli_about]
